Aroma: not very intense, rather fine, fairly evolved. Difficult. Does not seem typical Hermitage.
Taste: Prominent acidity. Rather short. Pretty acid finish.
Overall: Not extremely impressive.

Aroma: Much better than the previous one. Evolved aroma's, leather. Much deeper and more sophisticated. Fine wood, but maybe a bit too much. Seems to show some potential.
Taste: Again strong acidity. Better structure than the previous one, but not top either.
Overall: Much better, but not yet on a high level.

Nice colour, younger-looking than the previous one - cherry hue. The nose is pretty closed but intense; after a while it opens up more - more modern in style, with lovely dark fruit. The 'attaque' of the taste is fuller, but overall the mouthfeel is not strong enough. Better complexity than the previous wines though. Not very long aftertaste. Overall the best wine of this flight so far, slightly rounder and good structure. Keeps improving in the glass.

On sight clearly the youngest wine of this flight of four. The nose is fairly lactic, good intensity, and nice red fruit. The taste is fairly modern and the most rounded wine of the flight. Overall a nice example of a younger more modern Hermitage but it is somewhat lacking in complexity - 'manque un peu de caractère'.

Nice dark cherry colour. The nose is really deep and complex. Still a bit difficult but with clear potential; fine wood and kirsch, fairly powerful. The taste is perfectly balanced and very well rounded - not an edge on it. Very long. A beautiful wine, with still lots of potential, close to perfection.
Note afterwards: this is the third time I've had this wine and it keeps amazing me how such a beautiful wine could emerge from the fairly dismal 1992 vintage. Nice work.

Nice colour, with a slightly evolved hue. The nose is more typical Northern Rhône Syrah, still fairly subdued, clearly less complex than the previous wine, but still very fine. On the palate it clearly shows more dominant acidity, but kept in balance and with good complexity. Clearly less stuffing than the previous one though. A very nice wine, but it had a hard time following the Le Pavillon 1992.

Beautifully evolved colour. Wonderful nose, typical Hermitage with some evolution but still retaining hints of young fruit and showing enormous complexity. The taste is a prime example of perfect evolution and wonderful integration, carried by strong acids that nonetheless do not disturb at all. A magnificent example of a fully evolved Hermitage. Great!

Nice colour, but not as brilliant or intense as the previous wines. Nose is also a (small) step back. Hints of coffee, and strangely enough more of a Côte-Rôtie-like chocolatey aroma. The taste is wonderful with good structure and integration, but not as interesting as the previous wine. Possibly this wine is slightly over the hill, but only slightly.

Beautifully evolved colour. Concentrated aroma's, fairly typical Hermitage, with a nice touch of kirsch. Slight note of burning alcohol. The mouth is well-rounded, firm acidity but not disturbing. Long. A very nice wine, maybe lacking a bit of a clear profile.

Nice intense colour, slightly evolved. Deeper nose than the Chave, layered, nice sweet kirsch; still fairly young impressions. Very velvety taste with good balance and length. Nice wine. Jozef thought it was somewhat cooked, but I do not agree. About week later I had another 1991 from my cellar, and it showed similar (if not even slightly better).

Nice young colour. Very closed nose, intense dark fruit, but difficult to gauge. Lots of potential there. The taste is very round and suave, a typical example of good modern wine making. Long, with good balance and lots of sweet fruit. It may lack some complexity, but that can still be hidden. A nice wine, albeit in a more modern incarnation than some others.

Slightly lighter cherry colour. More evolved nose, which does not reveal much detail. Still closed? The taste is a nice example of a Hermitage mouthfeel with the typical acidity but nicely kept under control. Nice wine, but may still be in a slightly difficult phase.

Perfect pomegrenade colour. The nose is typical Hermitage with nice fine wood aroma's, evolved red fruit, very sweet, and fairly complex. The taste is very balanced and extremely well-integrated. A very nice wine indeed, but not absolute top.
After revealing the wine: a very nice wine, but no way a 100-pointer.

Beautiful cherry colour. The nose is a marmelade of red fruit, multi-layered, massive yet subtle. Still fairly young. In the mouth it more resembles a young top Languedoc Syrah, perfect structure and balance and great length. Fairly complex. Nice wine, not typical Hermitage though, and anyway still too young.

Perfect pomegrenade colour, somewhat transparent. Very complex nose of beautiful 'sous-bois' and lovely evolved red fruit. Very fine and sweet. The taste, alas, does not follow suit. The acidity is too prominent and the overall feel is somewhat hollow. A pity! An incredible nose, but the taste is not there.

Perfect cherry colour. Wonderful nose, more evolved than the previous one. Fairly typical as well, with some licorice and eucalyptus. Truly integrated, and after a while some more secondary aroma's like a touch of leather start to appear. The mouth is unbelievable, beautifully integrated, superfine, like needlework. This is an absolute top wine.

Beautiful yellow-golden colour, but not as intense as the Carbonifera. The nose is fairly difficult, nice almond but not a lot of fruit, rather bizarre. A nice touch of lime (lindentree) however. The taste is magnificent however, very complex, and completely different from what the nose was indicating. Perfectly balanced, beautiful wine.
